Public Accounting with License held 0-5 years

Active member whose principal occupation is in the public practice of accounting, such member having held a CPA Certificate as of the beginning of this fiscal year:

Public Accounting with License held over 5 years

Active member whose principal occupation is not in the public practice of accounting, as of the beginning of the fiscal year.

Industry with active license

Active member whose principal occupation is not in the public practice of accounting.  Member may be working in Government or Industry and must have an active license with the WV Board of Accountancy.

Non-Resident Member

Individual may continue being a member under the non-resident member category.  Member must not live or work within the state of West Virginia to qualify for this category.

Reinstate Membership

Former members of the WV Society of CPAs may request to reinstate their membership.

Any member who formerly resigned while in good standing or was terminated due to non-payment of membership dues may be reinstated upon payment of the following, providing that all past financial obligations and past dues are paid as explained below:

Members who resigned from the Society may request reinstatement by updating the reinstatement application and will be required to pay a $30.00 reinstatement fee plus the portion of the dues owed for the current year.

Terminated members due to non-payment of membership dues may request reinstatement by updating the reinstatement application and will be required to pay  a $75.00 reinstatement fee plus the portion of the dues owed for the current year.

Industry, Inactive License

Active member whose principal occupation is not in the public practice of accounting.  Member may be working in Government or Industry, but his/her license is currently not active with the WV Board of Accountancy.

Junior Associate

Individual who is a recent (0-5 years) college graduate who (a) has not yet applied to site for the CPA exam but who is pursuing a career in accounting, or (b) has applied for / is currently in the process of taking the CPA exam, or (c) has passed the CPA exam but is not yet licensed.

Senior Associate

Individual who has graduated from college more than 5 years ago who meets one of the following criteria:

  • Have applied for / currently accepted to take the CPA exam. 
  • Non-CPA owner of a CPA firm.
  • Billable professional in CPA firm. 
  • WV Public Accountant 
  • Individual working under direct supervision of CPA in industry, government, or education.

Educator Members (Non-CPAs)

Educator teaching accounting or accounting related courses at a college or university.

  • Must be willing to abide by the Code of Conduct and professional ethics of the WVSCPA
  • Are subject to having their membership revoked for acts discreditable to the profession
  • May participate in all Society activities at the membership rate
  • Are eligible for all benefits of Society membership
  • Are in-state certified CPA educators are permitted to vote and to hold elected offices
  • Are eligible to join local chapter, paying chapter dues.

P - Professional Affiliate Membership

Non CPA members who are engaged in occupations or professions which the Board of Directors has determined have sufficient common interests and mutual dependence to make their membership advantageous to other members of the Society.

Student Membership

Student Membership s for Full-Time college freshman, sophomore, junior, senior and/or graduate students majoring in accounting or any college students who have completed the first two Accounting Principles courses.  Students must be attending a West Virginia College or University.

Student Membership may continue for up to one (1) year following graduation until employed or for the duration of the graduate school.

After graduation student members may upgrade to an associate member until passing the CPA exam, in which your membership would become a regular member of the Society.
