Outstanding Accounting Student Awards

Submissions for the Outstanding Accounting Student Awards are due by March 15.

At Committee Day, the Recruiting & Career Opportunities Committee of the WV Society of CPAs recognizes students majoring in accounting from colleges and universities all across our great state.

Students who are current members of the WVSCPA may apply directly to be considered for these awards. All students will be required to submit their transmittals, resume, essay and letters of reference via the Society website at The deadline for student submissions is March 15, 2019. These awards are a statewide competition, so please be aware that not every applicant will receive an award.

To be eligible for self-nomination, students are required to meet the following criteria:

• Be or become a Student Member of the WV Society of CPAs

• Must be attending a college / university in the state of West Virginia

• Major in the Accounting Field

• Graduate between December 2018 and August 2020 with a Bachelor’s Degree or a  Master’s Degree.  This will include:  Juniors, Seniors & Graduate Students.  Freshman & Sophomores are not eligible.

• Have a 3.0 or higher Accounting GPA AND a 3.0 or higher Cumulative GPA

• Submit a current resume to the Society

• Submit an unofficial transcript through the 2018 spring semester.  

• Provide a minimum of two (2) written references with at least one being from a faculty member (ideally, the second should be from an employer or a nonscholastic source).

• Submit an essay (no more than one double-spaced page in length) explaining why the student should be recognized as the Outstanding Accounting Student in the State of West Virginia.

• Complete a requested transmittal form via the website

• Not be a prior winner of this award

The members of the West Virginia Society’s Recruiting & Career Opportunities Committee will meet during the month of April each year to choose winners.  The winners will receive: 

  • First Place - $1000.00 & Certificate of Recognition

  • Second Place - $750.00 & Certicate of Recognition

  • Third Place - $500.00 & Certificate of Recognition 

Award winners will be notified in late April or early May and will be presented with their award and cash prize at the WV Society of CPAs annual Committee Day held in May of each year.
