IRS user-fee hearing canceled due to shutdown

The IRS is currently unable to reschedule this event.

While the ongoing government shutdown hasn’t delayed the expected start of tax season, other Internal Revenue Service functions have been impacted, with the service announcing today that it has cancelled a public hearing on proposed amendments to the regulations relating to imposing user fees for enrolled agents and enrolled retirement plan agents (REG-122898-17).

The Treasury Department and the IRS said the hearing had been scheduled for Thursday morning, Jan. 24, in the main auditorium of the IRS Building in Washington, D.C. Notice of proposed rulemaking and notice of the hearing were originally published on Nov. 19 (83 F.R. 58202).

The IRS won’t determine until later whether the hearing will be rescheduled, also because of the shutdown.
